Yeah. The APIs look great, but having only the "headlines" API really limits the kind of apps that can be developed. It looks like it doesn't amount to much more than a more flexible RSS feed.
If ESPN really wants us to put the APIs through their paces, it would be nice to have access to the data that can be used and/or transformed in interesting ways, like the scores. I'd love to try them even at some cost and/or with certain restrictions on whether the APIs can be used for profit. Heck, some people might come up with such good apps that ESPN would want to bring them on board.
Obviously, they're not obligated to do this. But the "headlines" API, while useful for some specific cases, is probably the single least interesting and flexible one there is. (I guess that's why it's free...)
Anyway, thanks to ESPN for giving us this much! Hopefully, access to the APIs will expand in the future.
Yea, I was pretty excited about this and was ready to integrate this into a hyperlocal app we're building. But the terms are way too onerous. No way I go anywhere near this. I don't mind having to include ESPN branding on the pages that use the API, but I can't profit from it in any way? What's the point of that? Talk about letting the lawyers kill an API in the cradle.
After spending lots of time searching for a good sports api, I found the sportracking (www.sportracking.com/en) and it works fine, but only lets 1000 calls per second. So I was hoping to change to espn. What's the price of "premium partner"?
Hi everybody i need to list all the events under a league but m getting a following error :
<response><timestamp>2012-07-22T15:37:16Z</timestamp><message>This action is forbidden for the requested resource at your permission level. Please review the documentation for account level access.</message><status>error</status><code>403</code></response>
All I need is the NFL scores and schedule. I was sooo excited to find this API only to be let down. I really hope the scores and schedules api becomes publicly available.
i sent an email weeks ago. a friend of mine did the same in the summer, both student programmers here, looking to make a decent app... no reply from espn

Can you please clarify this?
It seems like all the interesting APIs are restricted to companies classified as premium partners. How do we become that?

Agreed. Pretty excited about using the API's but disappointed that it was only headlines.
What is the process of becoming a partner?

Wow, went from excited to zero, thanks for exposing the nearly-useless RSS rehashing, ESPN. What a joke.

I'd also like to know how one becomes a premium partner. Where is the documentation for this?

This is false advertising, how completely useless just exposing headlines. Screw you espn.

Have lots of time and ideas, but cannot access anything beyond headlines.
Is this some kind of cruel joke?

Hay, This is important for us too (and obviously many others), any ESPN personnel who might be able to relate?
